Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty made telephone call on Tuesday with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between Cairo and Washington, both active members of the Quartet mechanism, which also includes Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “both sides affirmed the importance of supporting Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity and continued coordination within the framework of the Quartet,” emphasizing their complete rejection of any attempts to divide the country or undermine its stability.

Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt’s full support for Sudanese national institutions, stressing the need to launch an effective humanitarian corridor that ensures the unhindered delivery of aid, in parallel with increased relief support and enhanced cooperation with the United Nations, the African Union, and relief agencies.

He emphasized the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to support a comprehensive ceasefire and create the conditions for launching an inclusive political process that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and development, and to push for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire that guarantees the protection of the unity of the Sudanese state and its national institutions.

The Egyptian-American talks on Sudan come one day after the visit of the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to Saudi Arabia. This visit coincided with the presence in Riyadh of the US President’s Special Envoy for Arab and African Affairs, who held talks with Saudi officials regarding developments in Sudan.
