Gen. Burhan Visits Merowe Dam, Inspects Maintenance Work

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, inspected the Merowe Dam in northern Sudan. He was briefed on the progress of work at the dam, its technical and operational status, and the efforts being made to maintain a stable electricity supply.
According to a press release issued by the Council’s media office, the Chairman received a briefing on the maintenance and rehabilitation work underway at the dam and power plant. He directed that repairs be expedited and vital facilities secured to ensure the stability of the electricity grid and serve the public.
The visit comes amidst the importance of the Merowe Dam as a primary source of electricity generation, coinciding with efforts to rehabilitate the electricity sector and damaged infrastructure.
The Merowe Dam has been attacked several times by drones launched by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia, causing varying degrees of damage to the dam’s electricity generation capacity.
