Sudan: Coordination with Turkey to Strengthen Economic Cooperation

Istanbul – Sudanhorizon

Sudan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ms. Mahasin Ali Yaqoub, met with the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye, Ömer Bolat, to discuss ways to advance trade and industrial relations between the two nations and to bolster economic cooperation in a manner that serves their mutual interests.

The meeting took place in Istanbul on Monday. According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Minister Yaqoub emphasized the strength of the relationship between Sudan and Turkey.

The Sudanese minister highlighted the Sudanese government’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation and leveraging Turkish expertise to develop the industrial sector. This includes increasing the value-added component of national products, which would support economic recovery efforts and boost Sudanese exports.

The discussion covered investment opportunities in promising industrial sectors—specifically manufacturing, food processing, and textiles—as well as mechanisms to increase the volume of trade and remove obstacles hindering the flow of commerce between the two countries, with the goal of fostering further economic growth and integration.

For his part, the Turkish Minister of Trade affirmed his country’s interest in strengthening its economic partnership with Sudan and supporting its development and reconstruction efforts. He noted that Turkish institutions and companies are prepared to contribute to the implementation of joint industrial and investment projects that will benefit both nations. The two sides agreed on the importance of holding a Sudanese-Turkish cooperation forum in Sudan next January, continuing joint coordination, activating relevant technical committees, and working to develop commercial and industrial cooperation programs in the coming period—all with the aim of increasing the volume of trade and fostering sustainable investment partnerships between the two countries.
