Sumoud Coalition Demands the Sudanese Dialogue Be Limited to Three Parties, Including “Tasis”,Sources say
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa
Sources close to meetings held last Monday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia—between the “Quintet” mechanism and various Sudanese political and civil forces that identify as anti-war—have revealed that the “Sumud” (Steadfastness) coalition has demanded that the participants in the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue process be restricted to three specific political groups.
In an exclusive statement the sources indicated that “Sumud” proposed limiting the dialogue to three blocs: the “Sumud” coalition itself, the “Tasis” (Foundation) entity—whose participation “Sumud” insists upon—and the Democratic Bloc. The sources noted that “Sumud” opposes the inclusion of other Sudanese forces in the dialogue under this proposed framework. They added that the Quintet mechanism informed the attendees that it would relay this proposal to the other various Sudanese political forces.
The sources further clarified that the Quintet mechanism did not meet with the “Tasis” entity during these sessions, noting that it was “Tasis” itself that requested to postpone its meeting with the mechanism until mid-November, citing what it described as “organizational commitments.” In a statement issued following its meeting with the Quintet mechanism last Monday, the “Sumud ” (Resilience) group called for an “immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce, and the launch of a Sudanese-led peace process based on humanitarian response, a ceasefire, and political dialogue.” The group further emphasized the need to “expand the arms embargo to cover all of Sudan, halt external support that fuels the war, and unify regional and international mediation efforts—all while preserving the country’s unity and establishing a democratic, civilian-led transition.”
