Port Sudan hosted an official reception on Saturday evening to mark the National Day of the Republic of Türkiye. The Turkish Embassy in Sudan organised the event, which drew a large gathering of government officials, representatives of official and diplomatic bodies, public figures, and representatives of institutions and the private sector. The occasion reflected the depth of the historic relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Sudan.
The programme opened with a flag salute ceremony for the Sudanese and Turkish flags, followed by the screening of a message from the President of the Republic of Türkiye. This was followed by an address from Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sudan, His Excellency Mr Fahri Türker Oba, and then remarks by the guest of honour, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Mudawi Musa.
In his address, the Turkish Ambassador spoke about the depth and historical continuity of Sudanese–Turkish relations, highlighting the enduring ties between the two peoples and the progress made in bilateral cooperation over recent decades in the political, economic, commercial, cultural, educational and humanitarian fields.
The Ambassador also outlined Türkiye’s institutional presence in Sudan and the role played by Turkish institutions in strengthening cooperation between the two countries. These include the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Yunus Emre Institute, the Turkish Maarif Foundation, Ziraat Katılım Bank, Turkish Airlines, as well as other Turkish institutions and organisations operating in the humanitarian and development sectors.
The Ambassador addressed the exceptional circumstances facing Sudan, reaffirming Türkiye’s solidarity with the Sudanese people and its commitment to continuing to support the country at this critical stage. He also stressed Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to humanitarian and development efforts and to support recovery and reconstruction initiatives, expressing his country’s wishes for Sudan to enjoy security, stability and prosperity.
On the economic front, the Ambassador emphasised the importance of expanding trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and making use of the opportunities and potential available in the Sudanese and Turkish markets. He said this would strengthen partnerships between businesspeople and companies in both countries and open up broader prospects for trade and joint investment, particularly in sectors that are priorities for the Sudanese economy.
As part of efforts to strengthen economic and commercial relations between the two countries, the Turkish Commercial Attaché’s Office in Sudan has gained considerable momentum. These have included a series of meetings with Sudanese businesspeople, company representatives and economic stakeholders, as well as meetings with representatives of diplomatic missions and commercial attachés accredited to Sudan.
The meetings aimed to explore opportunities for trade and investment cooperation, identify areas for partnership between private-sector players, and strengthen communication between the Sudanese business community and its counterparts in other countries. These efforts are intended to open up new opportunities for trade and investment and support greater economic cooperation in the period ahead.
