Doctors Network: Children and Women in Kadugli Face Starvation

Sudanhorizon – Agencies

The Sudan Doctors Network said it is closely monitoring the deteriorating humanitarian conditions facing displaced persons from the areas of Al-Mashayish, Burnu, Al-Kuwayk, and Kiga Al-Kheil in Kadugli locality, where hundreds of families are suffering from acute shortages of food and basic health services, in addition to a lack of essential goods and a sharp rise in prices of what is available.

In a press statement, the network said that according to field monitoring by its teams at the camp, the most affected groups are women and children, with an alarming increase in the number of pregnant women — a situation that heightens health risks and increases the urgent need for interventions in nutrition, healthcare, and water services.

The network explained that there is currently only one camp hosting displaced persons from the areas of Al-Mashayish, Burnu, Al-Kuwayk, and Kiga Al-Kheil — the Al-Ustaz Al-Khariji Camp — which shelters 330 families, including 243 children, 381 women, and 104 pregnant women.

The network confirmed that the camp is suffering from a severe shortage of food supplies, medical services, and basic infrastructure. Only four latrines are available for all camp residents. Previously, the camp had received essential services from international organizations, including child nutrition programs, healthcare, water supply, and cash assistance. However, all these services ceased after the organizations withdrew from the city.

The Sudan Doctors Network renewed its urgent appeal for the immediate resumption and expansion of these services to avert an impending humanitarian catastrophe. It called on international organizations and UN agencies to intervene urgently and provide the necessary assistance.

The network further noted that all displaced persons in Kadugli had previously been sheltering in schools before being relocated to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) camp, which was later evacuated after being targeted by drone attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces and the SPLM–North (Al-Hilu faction).
