Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Minister of Energy Engineer and Consultant Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed received a delegation from the Azerbaijani Energy Solutions Company at his office in Khartoum on Thursday.
The minister briefed the company’s delegation on available investment opportunities in the electricity and oil sectors, highlighting the priority of expanding electricity generation, particularly hydropower, alongside thermal generation. He said this would help increase generation capacity and strengthen the stability of electricity supplies.
The minister also pointed to Sudan’s interest in expanding renewable energy projects, noting the flexibility of the investment law governing the sector. He explained that most parts of Sudan receive high levels of solar radiation throughout the day, while several areas also have good wind-energy resources. He added that there are investment opportunities in other energy sources, including biomass, waste-to-energy projects, biogas, and others.
In the oil sector, the minister outlined investment opportunities in new blocks located in secure areas, as well as opportunities to develop producing fields. He also highlighted investment opportunities at the Port Sudan refinery, stressing the importance of moving discussions toward practical steps and translating investment interest into projects on the ground.
For his part, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation and the company’s Director General affirmed that the Azerbaijani Energy Solutions Company has substantial financial and technical capabilities and extensive expertise in the electricity and oil sectors. He noted that the company had planned to invest in Sudan before the outbreak of the war, saying: “Today, we have come to work.”
The delegation head revealed that the company plans to implement two solar energy projects in Khartoum, with a combined capacity of 100 megawatts in the first phase. Work would then continue to develop the projects and gradually increase their generation capacity to reach 1,000 megawatts.
The Azerbaijani Energy Solutions Company is a state-owned company specializing in the energy sector, with technical and financial capabilities and expertise in electricity and oil.
