U.S. Secretary of State Discusses Regional Conflicts, Including Sudan, with Kenyan President

Washington – Sudanhorizon
The U.S. State Department announced in a brief statement on Monday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Kenyan President William Ruto had a phone call. During the call, Secretary Rubio thanked the Kenyan president “for Kenya’s leadership in regional peace and security.”
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated in a press briefing that Rubio and Ruto discussed recent developments in Somalia and South Sudan and addressed “the need to end ongoing conflicts in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan.”
A diplomatic source familiar with regional affairs told Sudanhorizon that while the statement did not reveal further details or clarify the role the U.S. expects Kenya to play in these conflicts, Washington does not welcome Kenya’s support for RSF militia activities and its political allies. The U.S. had previously made it clear, through its mission at the UN Security Council, that it opposes any threat to Sudan’s territorial unity.
The source also noted that the U.S. has designated the RSF militia as a group responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
