Minister of Minerals Concludes China Visit, Emphasizes Importance of Partnership with Beijing

The Sudanese Minister of Minerals, Nour-al-Daim Mohamed Ahmed Taha, concluded his visit to China evening Sunday after participating in the International Mining Conference and Exhibition in Tianjin, as well as holding a series of meetings with Chinese officials, institutions, and companies to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation and investment in the minerals sector.

During the conference—which was addressed by the Vice Premier of the State Council of China and attended by approximately 32 ministers of minerals from around the world—the Sudanese Minister delivered a speech outlining Sudan’s mineral potential and resources, as well as available investment opportunities in the sector. He emphasized Sudan’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and partnerships, and to leveraging modern expertise and technologies to develop the mining industry.
The Minister and his accompanying delegation also held meetings with several Chinese officials and institutions, most notably the Vice Minister of Natural Resources and the Head of the China Geological Survey. Discussions focused on prospects for cooperation in geological surveying and exploration, culminating in the signing of a memorandum of understanding to foster collaboration and the exchange of expertise and technology in this field.
In a statement to the Sudan Radio correspondent in China, at the Sudanese Embassy in Beijing following the conclusion of his visit, Minister Nour-al-Daim Taha explained that participation in the conference served as a vital opportunity to affirm Sudan’s presence in international forums, showcase its mineral potential and resources, and highlight investment opportunities within the mining sector.
He noted that Sudan’s participation attracted significant interest, underscoring the importance of utilizing such forums to strengthen ties with nations and international institutions involved in the mining sector and to open new avenues for cooperation and investment. He added that the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Chinese side represents a significant step toward developing cooperation in geological surveying and exploration, and leveraging Chinese expertise and technology to advance Sudan’s minerals sector.
As part of his discussions with investors and stakeholders, the Minister met—following a dinner hosted in his and his delegation’s honor by Sudan’s Ambassador to China, Omar Eissa Ahmed—with representatives of Chinese and Sudanese companies interested in the mining sector. They exchanged views on sector-related issues, the challenges and problems facing mining in Sudan, and ways to develop the sector and boost investments and partnerships within it. The Minister and the Ambassador also addressed questions and inquiries from the attendees, providing clarifications regarding the Ministry’s initiatives and diplomatic efforts aimed at creating a favorable environment for investors and fostering cooperation in the mining sector.

The Minister of Minerals emphasized Sudan’s keenness to attract Chinese companies, benefit from their expertise and technology, and establish comprehensive partnerships covering exploration, production, processing, and manufacturing stages, thereby generating added value for Sudan’s mineral resources.
The Minister also highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to regulate and formalize artisanal mining, improve working conditions for those involved, and mitigate risks and environmental impacts, all with the aim of maximizing the activity’s contribution to the national economy.
The Minister of Minerals expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Sudanese Embassy and mission in China, and to Ambassador Omar Eissa Ahmed, for their active participation in the conference proceedings and their commendable efforts in organizing Sudan-related activities and exhibitions, as well as for showcasing the country’s potential and mineral wealth to the participants of this international forum. The Minister of Minerals’ visit to China comes within the framework of Sudan’s drive to expand international partnerships in the mining sector and to attract investments, expertise, and modern technologies, thereby supporting the sector’s development and the optimal utilization of Sudan’s abundant mineral resources
