Yasser Al-Atta: RSF Militia Detain My Brother in “Daqris” Prison

General Yasser Al-Atta, member of the Sovereign Council and Chief of the Army General Staff, revealed that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias are holding his younger brother in the “Daqris” prison in Nyala, following his capture on the third day of the war in Khartoum.
In an interview with the Egyptian newspaper *Al-Shorouk*, Al-Atta stated that the RSF militias attacked the family’s homes in Khartoum and detained his younger brother, along with his cousin (an army captain) and three other family members; the captain was killed while in detention in Khartoum.
Al-Atta added: “As for the four members of my family—including my brother—they are currently detained by the RSF in the ‘Daqris’ prison in the city of Nyala, Darfur. We receive information about them from time to time. The truth is, had they been held by wild beasts in the jungle, their situation would have been better than the treatment they are receiving from the Janjaweed.”
Al-Atta revealed that, a month into the detention, an individual from the militia contacted an intelligence officer at the Al-Muhandiseen Military Area, offering to hand over his brother and the others in exchange for four militia officers belonging to the Mahariya tribe.
He continued: “I told the officer who relayed the offer to me: ‘Tell them to release all the army soldiers they are holding in exchange for handing over their four officers’—something that, of course, did not happen.”
He went on to say: “The militia have detained 43,000 young men in Khartoum during the war, and my brother is neither more precious nor more noble than the other(detained) youth of Sudan.”
