The Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Mutassim Ahmed Saleh, met today (Thursday) in his office in Port Sudan with a delegation from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the Horn of Africa, led by Stephen Obeo and accompanied by the PROSPECTS Programme team in Sudan. The meeting discussed areas of joint cooperation to support the government’s efforts to rebuild the labour and social protection systems.
According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the discussions reviewed the continuation of the technical support provided by the ILO under the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP), particularly in the fields of humanitarian crisis response, support for the return of displaced persons, and recovery projects in Khartoum and other states affected by the conflict. The meeting also addressed the importance of developing the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system to empower young people and enhance their skills in line with labour market needs.
The two sides also reviewed, according to SUNA, plans to expand PROSPECTS interventions to additional states beyond White Nile and Kassala, in order to support agricultural value chains, improve vocational training, and provide financing for youth-led small enterprises in displacement-affected areas.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the tripartite approach (government – workers – employers), and to strengthening dialogue among social partners as an essential pillar in building a stable and fair labour market.
