On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held a meeting with a delegation comprising heads and leaders of national political parties and blocs. The meeting addressed general national issues, foremost among them the preparations for convening the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue conference.
Amin Mahmoud, Secretary-General of the Popular Congress Party, stated that the meeting highlighted the high hopes the Sudanese people place on the planned dialogue to resolve the country’s problems and crises, emphasizing that the dialogue must not be allowed to fail due to procedural hurdles.
The meeting also commended the efforts of the dialogue preparatory committee, affirming support for the committee in carrying out its mandate—namely, creating a conducive environment for the dialogue—while noting that the conference participants would form the specific dialogue committees tasked with defining the agenda and identifying the participating parties.
According to the Popular Congress Party’s media office, Mahmoud added that the meeting also addressed the crisis surrounding the denial of a US entry visa to the Sovereign Council Chairman, preventing him from attending United Nations meetings in New York. Political leaders assured the Chairman that this crisis had united citizens against external forces, enabling them to rally behind their government as it confronts aggression and external powers; they pledged their continued support for the authorities and the army until victory is achieved for the Sudanese people.
The meeting also affirmed that the current economic crisis is a consequence of the war imposed on Sudan and part of the mechanisms and attempts to subjugate the Sudanese people, and that the public will confront all instruments of war directed against the country. It further emphasized the importance of ensuring the success of the winter agricultural season in the irrigated sectors of the River Nile and Northern states to secure supplies and bridge any potential food gap.
