Trump: Halts Immigration and Naturalization Procedures for 19 Countries, Including Sudan
Washington- Sudanhorizon
The Trump administration has officially halted immigration and naturalization procedures for individuals from 19 developing countries, including four Arab nations, among which the Sudan.
Russia Today Arabic reported that the measures also apply to immigrants who have already passed citizenship tests and those who entered the United States since January 20, 2021.
According to the new directives, this decision will apply to immigrants who arrived from the 19 countries after January 20, 2021, the date of former US President Joe Biden’s inauguration. Each of them will be re-interviewed individually to assess the likelihood of them posing a threat to US national security.
According to a memo issued by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), foreigners from these countries received notices canceling the citizenship ceremonies scheduled for this week, including those who passed the naturalization tests. They will also not be permitted to take the oath of citizenship.
This applies to all individuals from these countries who entered the country on or after Biden’s inauguration day. The countries included in the decision are: Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Iran, Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Burundi, Chad, Cuba, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
This came after Rahmanullah Lakhanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, opened fire on National Guard members in Washington, D.C., near the White House, killing one and injuring another.
Lakhanwal lives in Washington state and entered the United States several years ago, where he was granted refugee status, according to investigative documents and Justice Department statements, due to his assistance to U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
