Khartoum – Maryam Abshir

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohieddin Salem will travel to New York today, ahead of the official Sudanese delegation participating in the session’s proceedings. The delegation is expected to be led by Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

The Foreign Minister will participate in the high-level meetings and related high-level events, which will begin on September 22. Before then, he will hold talks with a number of international actors, UN mechanisms, and organizations concerned with the Sudanese crisis, in addition to meeting with his counterparts from friendly and brotherly countries that have an interest in Sudanese affairs.

The Foreign Minister is also scheduled to meet with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher. Preparations for the meeting were previously coordinated by telephone. The talks will address urgent humanitarian conditions in some parts of Sudan and coordination with the Sudanese government to ensure the continuity of humanitarian operations.

The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly opened on September 8, while the high-level General Debate Week for heads of delegations will take place from September 22 to 28. Informed sources said they expect the Sudan file to feature prominently during the high-level week of the General Assembly.
