Al-Kurmuk Governor to Sudanhorizon: After Six Hours of Fighting, Al-Kurmuk Is Fully Secured as Militias Retreat to the Far South
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa
The Governor of Al-Kurmuk, Abdel Aati Mohamed Al-Faki, said the locality’s capital has been fully secured, stating that government forces have established control over the eastern, western, and southern approaches, including the areas of Shamrat Jarab, Khor Al-Boudi, and Al-Shimi.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Al-Faki said Al-Kurmuk is now “free,” explaining that the fighting lasted approximately six hours. He said the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied forces demonstrated what he described as exceptional bravery and succeeded in clearing the town of “mercenaries” as well as Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters and forces affiliated with Joseph Tuka.
According to Al-Faki, the capture of Al-Kurmuk has confined the presence of the armed groups to the far southern part of the locality.
The governor also highlighted Al-Kurmuk’s strategic importance, noting that it lies on Sudan’s borders with Ethiopia and South Sudan. He added that the town hosts an official preferential trade gateway operating under the COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) trade framework, facilitating commerce with countries across East Africa.
