Prepared by Politicians, Diplomats, and Legal Experts: Announcement of the National Founding Platform Initiative

Today, a new political document called the “National Founding Platform” (NFP) was announced, stating that it was agreed upon by a group of political and opinion leaders from diverse political and intellectual backgrounds, in addition to prominent national figures and civil society icons, after several months of discussion and brainstorming.

According to a press release received by “almohagig”. According to the statement, the document will be shared with national political forces for consensus to form a roadmap for the near future in the post-war era.

According to the press release, the signatories emphasised that the diverse group that adopted the NFP document does not represent a political alliance or a partisan action but rather an intellectual effort to contribute to shaping the general orientations for the post-war era.

The NFP initiative is based on specific pillars; foremost among them is the transition from the current quasi-constitutional situation in Sudan to a situation where there is the most significant possible consensus among national components and popular representation, as popular authorisation through elections is not available at present.

The signatories proposed three temporary mechanisms (the National Founding Committee, the National Founding Council, and the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue) to achieve this representation and preparation before moving to electoral authorisation.

The NFP adopted the option for parties to refrain from direct participation in governance institutions during the transitional period, limiting their involvement to the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue and symbolic representation in the National Founding Council. Parties should focus on building their structures and communicating with their members and voters in preparation for the electoral process.

The NFP also ensured that military forces did not dominate the transitional period, emphasising that both civilian and military forces were a bridge that Sudan could not cross its current reality and soar high in the future without integrating their roles. The platform left it to the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue, which will produce a draft of the Transitional Constitution, to determine the nature of the integrated relationship between civilians and military personnel and determine the transitional period’s duration.

It is worth noting that among the prominent figures who participated in the discussion and acceptance of the document are Prince Abdul Rahman Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, Dr. Hassan Abdel Qadir Hilal, Dr. Bashir Adam Rahma, Dr. Miada Suwar Al-Dhahab, Sheikh Al-Samani Al-Wasila, and Ambassador Abdel Mahmoud Abdel Haleem.
