British Parliament Commemorates El Fasher Massacre; Darfur Associations Coalition Demands Accountability

London – Sudanhorizon
The Coalition of Darfur Associations participated in an event held at the British Parliament on Monday, October 26, 2026, to mark the first anniversary of the atrocities and massacres committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias in the city of El Fasher—events that have left a profound humanitarian tragedy, particularly for the people of Sudan and Darfur.
The participation followed an invitation from the British Foreign Office. The event was marked by a somber atmosphere, attended by Members of Parliament, representatives from civil society organizations, figures focused on Sudanese affairs, and senior leaders from the Coalition of Darfur Associations in the United Kingdom. Participants called for justice and accountability for those responsible for the crimes and violations witnessed in the city.
Ahead of the commemoration, the Coalition held a meeting with Kirsty McNeill, Minister for International Development and Africa. The discussion addressed several urgent issues regarding the humanitarian situation in Sudan and Darfur, most notably the need to end impunity, the fulfillment of Britain’s responsibility to protect civilians, and support for international efforts aimed at achieving justice and holding the perpetrators of international crimes accountable. The delegation further emphasized the need for the British government to leverage its diplomatic influence to pressure the United Arab Emirates to cease any support provided to the militia—support that contributes to the continuation of the war and ongoing violations against civilians. They urged the UK to work toward halting the genocide and crimes targeting the Sudanese people, and to ensure that the tragedies witnessed in El Fasher, El Geneina, and other parts of Sudan are not repeated.
The coalition maintains that commemorating the El Fasher massacre should not be limited to remembering the victims and expressing grief; rather, it must serve as an occasion to renew the international commitment to justice, take practical steps to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and hold accountable all those found responsible for the crimes committed against the Sudanese people.
