Authorities Seize Three Tons of Spoiled and Prohibited Food Products in West Kassala

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) branch in Kassala State, in coordination with the Higher Committee for Consumer Protection, carried out a large-scale inspection campaign across West Kassala Locality.
The joint operation resulted in the seizure of three tons of food products that failed to meet national standards and specifications. The violations included expired products, improper storage, failure to comply with labeling requirements, as well as prohibited goods that were found to be in violation of applicable laws.
The campaign brought together a range of judicial, regulatory, and security agencies, including the Consumer Protection Prosecution Office, the Pharmacy and Poisons Administration, the locality’s Health Affairs Department, the Supply Investigations Department, the Economic Security Department, and the Consumer Protection Association.
Khalid Haj Majid, Director of the SSMO branch in Kassala State, said the inspections reflect the organization’s commitment to safeguarding consumer health throughout the state. He announced a comprehensive plan to extend inspection campaigns to all localities without exception.
He also pledged to continue specialized inspection campaigns alongside consumer awareness initiatives and educational outreach for merchants on the safe handling of food products. As part of the campaign, informational guidance was distributed to shop owners. He further expressed his appreciation for the field teams and partner agencies for their outstanding efforts.
The campaign was widely welcomed by residents and compliant business owners, who praised the organization’s regulatory role in improving market standards and ensuring food safety.
