Foreign Minister Praises Great Lakes Organization’s Role in Promoting Peace and Economic Integration

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muhyiddin Salem, praised the significant role played by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) in promoting peace and economic integration among the countries of the region.
He made the remarks during a meeting today at his office in Khartoum with Dr. Mbita Lubabula, Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, and his accompanying delegation, which is currently on an official visit to Sudan.
The minister welcomed the important visit and praised the assistance and support that the organization has continued to provide to Sudan during the current period. He also briefed the delegation on the efforts being undertaken by the Sudanese government to promote peace and stability and advance meaningful national dialogue aimed at preserving Sudan’s security, unity, and development.
The meeting addressed frameworks and mechanisms for cooperation between the organization and Sudan in the economic, political, and security fields.
For his part, the Executive Secretary of the Great Lakes organization expressed his pleasure at visiting Sudan and affirmed the organization’s commitment to providing all forms of cooperation to help Sudan achieve security, unity, and stability.
He also outlined the activities the organization plans to undertake during the coming period, in which Sudan will actively participate as a member state, as part of efforts to achieve the highest possible degree of integration among the organization’s member countries.
