Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris announced the launch of what he described as the “largest national geological survey project” in modern Sudanese history, affirming that the project opens the door to redefining Sudan’s economy based on its untapped mineral wealth and establishes a new phase aimed at attracting international investment in the mining and rare minerals sector.
In his speech during the launch event on Thursday, Idris explained that Sudan not only possesses vast agricultural, water, and livestock resources, but also holds one of the richest and rarest mineral reserves in the region. He noted that preliminary survey results confirm that the country stands on a mineral base capable of fundamentally transforming the future of Sudan’s economy.
The Prime Minister called on regional and international investors, financial institutions, and development funds to view Sudan as a strategic destination for investment in minerals, stating that the survey project sends a message to the international community that Sudan has the potential to become one of the world’s richest countries if these resources are properly utilized and efficiently managed.
He praised workers in the geology and mining sector, including technicians, engineers, field survey teams, and security personnel, describing them as the “true soldiers” behind this achievement for their work in desert and mountainous areas under complex operational and security conditions.
For his part, Minister of Minerals Nour Al-Daem Taha confirmed that the government has placed the comprehensive geological survey project at the top of its priorities as the correct entry point for managing the sector on scientific foundations. He emphasized Sudan’s direction toward building a diversified economy based on mining, knowledge, and modern scientific data.
Taha added that the Ministry of Minerals has already begun implementing its strategic plan, noting that the project represents the cornerstone of an economic revival based on scientific resource management. He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to transforming mineral potential into economic value that supports stability and development while safeguarding the rights of future generations.
