The Farm by the Blue Nile

By: Dr. Eiman Abbas El-Nour

Draw the face of the monster
That’s chasing you
Tell me the name of your pain

Am here to listen, and tell
Laugh and weep
Mourn the seamless past
And crooked present

To hold your hand
And navigate our way out
Of the labyrinth

Let’s pray hard and deep
Close our eyes and sail into the soul of the water
Caressing the forlorn cliffs
Greeting two dreamy friends
Enjoying a simple peasant meal
And sipping hot lemon tea

Where are the birds of paradise?
When paradise is no more?
Where are the date palms
When no one is dreaming of the fruit

The white Nile is red
Purple is the blue
And we are everywhere
But home..

We left with shattered hearts
And half baked dreams
To safe lands faraway
still, we dare to dream
Of the roses by the blue nile
And the mango trees
The tea pot on the coal fire
And the sweet scent of lime leaves
Half a spoon of sugar
And plenty of tenderness

Pray for two longing souls
Prisoners of war
Prisoners of love.
