Energy Undersecretary: Rehabilitating the Sector Requires Joint Efforts and Field Work
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, Ali Abdelrahman, stated that the current phase requires a fundamental shift in planning to advance the energy sector. He explained that efforts should focus on reconstruction and rehabilitation of the core infrastructure of the oil industry system, supply chains, and electricity, alongside planning to develop the sector and restore its role in the national economy.
This came during his meeting with directors of general departments at the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation, where the Undersecretary listened to a presentation outlining work plans and the challenges facing the oil sector, which has suffered extensive damage to all its key infrastructure. This includes production fields, crude oil and product pipelines, refineries, storage facilities, administrative and service buildings, fuel stations, and land transport systems.
Despite these challenges, the meeting confirmed that the Ministry of Energy (Oil and Gas Sector) has continued to work diligently to provide the needs of various sectors in terms of petroleum products and to support the state treasury with financial resources. Notably, during the war, the ministry succeeded in maintaining a minimum level of production and ensuring continued supply to the country’s strategic sectors.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Undersecretary called on all employees to unite their efforts and engage in field work to advance the energy sector and restore its leading role.
