Prominent Sudanese Human Rights Advocate Nabil Adib: Rejection of Dialogue Will Not Create Peace

Lawyer, human rights activist, and prominent leader in the Democratic Bloc, Nabil Adib, affirmed that the rejection by the forces gathered in Addis Ababa of the call for Sudanese dialogue will not contribute to achieving the peace they seek.

Adib, a member of the National Committee for Dialogue from Within, stated in an exclusive interview with Sudanhorizon news website that peace will not be achieved through mere wishful thinking however well-intentioned, but rather through resolving the escalating Sudanese crisis that has spawned war.

He clarified that war is not the disease afflicting Sudan, but rather a symptom of a deeper malaise that cannot be cured by wishes alone, however well-intentioned. He emphasized that the Sudanese crisis will only be resolved through consensus on its root causes by Sudanese political and social forces, adding that this can only be achieved through a free and comprehensive Sudanese dialogue, which cannot be replaced by limited elite meetings in foreign capitals.

Adib pointed out that the success of the dialogue hinges on its ability to reach a consensus on a solution to the Sudanese crisis. He stated, “I don’t believe any of the influential groups will isolate themselves from it,” emphasizing that a clear vision regarding the freedom and openness of the dialogue to all groups, without coercion or force, will inevitably lead to the participation of all active forces in Sudanese society. He expressed his hope that all influential forces would participate in the Sudanese dialogue.
