On Sunday, the anti-smuggling authorities in River Nile State announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle 21 kilograms of gold.
The state’s anti-smuggling forces explained that they seized 20 gold bars weighing approximately 21 kilograms, which were carefully concealed inside a double-cab pickup truck.
In a press statement, Brigadier General Adam Omar Sabil, the state’s Anti-Smuggling Department Director, confirmed that the seizure was the result of fieldwork and close monitoring of suspicious movements. He noted that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the case, and a Thuraya satellite phone was confiscated removed from his possession.
Sabil emphasized that this operation reflects the forces’ readiness and vigilance in combating attempts to smuggle national resources. He affirmed the continued efforts to tighten control and prevent illicit activities that threaten the national economy.
For his part, the Director General of Customs, Lieutenant General Salah Ahmed Ibrahim, praised this achievement, considering it a testament to the pivotal role of the anti-smuggling forces in protecting the country’s resources.
The Assistant Director General for Combating Smuggling, Major General Amir Zain al-Abidin Omar, also commended the seizure, emphasizing that field campaigns would continue relentlessly to safeguard national security and bolster economic stability.
Last January, Sudanese Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim acknowledged, in statements reported by Agence France-Presse, that only 20 tons of gold had been exported through official channels out of a total 70 tons produced in 2025.
