State Bank of Pakistan Approves Easing Correspondent Banking Relations with Sudan

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani, affirmed the bank’s intention to benefit from the expertise and experience of the State Bank of Pakistan in the fields of payment systems, digital technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, in addition to banking supervision and inspection, and the design of monetary policy tools for liquidity management in Islamic financial systems.

During her meeting with the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Jameel Ahmad, on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings in Washington, she called for implementing this cooperation through short-term training courses or direct secondment to the State Bank.

For his part, Jameel Ahmad expressed immediate approval to provide all technical assistance to Sudan across various areas of banking operations. He also announced the bank’s readiness to facilitate the establishment of correspondent banking relationships between the two countries, highlighting their importance in boosting trade relations, encouraging investment, and settling payments.
