Modern Lighting System Introduced as Khartoum Begins Illuminating Major Roads

Khartoum State has begun installing street lighting along several major roads in the Sudanese capital using a modern Split lighting system as part of efforts to rehabilitate the city’s infrastructure.

Sudan’s Minister of Energy, Eng. Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, and Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza toured a number of key roads in the capital to inspect the ongoing installation works being carried out by COMSA International. During the visit, they reviewed progress on the deployment of the modern lighting system and the company’s implementation of the project.

The governor instructed Khartoum Locality and the Roads Authority to make use of available out-of-service machinery where possible, review bridges and drainage channels, and assess how existing infrastructure could support ongoing road rehabilitation works.

He also inspected improvement works being undertaken by Khartoum Locality along Airport Road, including landscaping, painting, street lighting, and the beautification of the entrances and exits to Khartoum International Airport.

Hamza directed the locality to rehabilitate and replant the gardens on both sides of Airport Road, improve the lawns, plant additional trees and flowers, and reinstall street lighting poles, describing the area as one of the main gateways to both the airport and Khartoum State.

The governor further instructed the locality to bring the five-a-side football pitch into operation and ensure the provision of electricity and water to the roundabout at the beginning of Airport Road, describing these works as essential components of the road’s overall infrastructure rehabilitation programme.
