The River Nile State Designed as National Research Centre for Minerals Analysis
Sudanhorizon – Hala Hamza
The General Authority for Geological Research announced the start of relocating its central and reference laboratories to River Nile State.
Dr. Mustafa Hamed, Director of the Central Laboratories at the General Authority for Geological Research, confirmed that the authority has entered a phase of institutional reconstruction following the severe damage sustained by the sector during the war.
He noted that geological laboratories were among the most heavily affected institutions, after the rebel militia destroyed maps, libraries, and laboratories—some of which date back more than one hundred years.
Dr. Mustafa expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Minister of Minerals, Nour Al-Daem Taha, and for the executive leadership of the authority and their role in steering the institution through wartime conditions toward recovery and reconstruction.
He stated that the authority is working to rebuild what the war destroyed of state institutions, explaining that the central laboratories’ plan entails relocating to River Nile State, which will become the main headquarters for the central and reference laboratories التابعة to the General Authority for Geological Research.
Dr. Mustafa described this step as a pivotal strategic decision by the authority’s leadership, one that will enhance the role of laboratories in developing the mining sector, localizing mineral analysis processes within Sudan, supporting scientific research, and reducing reliance on external services.
He added that the authority is currently transferring equipment that survived destruction, alongside plans to procure the latest advanced technologies and laboratory equipment capable of keeping pace with modern technological requirements of the mining industry, thereby enhancing the added value of national mineral resources.
