Joint Forces Spokesperson to “Sudanhorizon”: Group 305 Crushed and Group 26 Surrenders
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
The official spokesperson for the Joint Forces, Mutawakkil Ali Wakil, said that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are experiencing a wave of accelerating defections that has taken on a recurring pattern, which he described as resembling “falling dominoes.” He explained that the roots of this phenomenon date back to the defection of a prominent commander in October 2024, which opened the way for other field commanders to join the Sudanese army.
In an exclusive statement to “Sudanhorizon” on Wednesday, Wakil said these defections are not merely isolated incidents, but rather reflect deep divisions within the structure of the RSF. He noted that some defecting commanders had revealed weaknesses in organization and morale, alongside a desire among many personnel to defect.
Wakil revealed that members of Group 305, stationed along the Export Road, had been completely crushed. He said more than 30 of its members were captured, while a number of combat vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and fuel were seized. He explained that Group 305 had been stationed in the Export Road area of North Kordofan State, adding that a field commander with the rank of colonel affiliated with the group had also been neutralized.
Wakil pointed out that every defection represents a loss for the RSF in terms of trained fighters and equipment, while simultaneously strengthening the army. He explained that a group affiliated with Group 26 had recently announced its surrender with all its equipment intact.
He stressed that these developments represent a recurring pattern of defections and internal fragmentation, noting that the phenomenon also affects the tribal alliances on which the RSF relies. He said the militia depends heavily on tribal and clan loyalties, and that these defections are destabilizing those loyalties, transforming them from social support bases into sources of fragmentation.
Wakil confirmed that the defections had caused the RSF to lose control of important areas, enabling the army to expand its area of control, as occurred along the Bara axis and the Export Road in North Kordofan State.
He explained that these developments are also having a psychological and morale-related impact on the RSF, adding that the defections send a message that “the ship is sinking,” which could weaken morale within the militia while boosting the army’s confidence.
Wakil said the defection of Group 305 and others represents another link in a chain of internal fragmentation that is weakening the RSF militarily and psychologically, and constitutes an indicator of major shifts in the course of the conflict.
