Sudan,AFDB and IGAD: Support Eentrepreneurship and Startups

The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the African Development Bank and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), launched the national component of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Project for Building Resilience and Reducing Fragility. This project aims to support the establishment of startups and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), empower youth, and create sustainable job opportunities.
During his meeting in Khartoum with a joint delegation from the African Development Bank, IGAD, and the University of Khartoum, the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Ali Juma, affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing all necessary facilities and a suitable environment for implementing the project’s activities, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Ministry of Finance’s media office.
The Undersecretary noted that this step aligns with the government’s official policies to support innovation and enhance communities’ ability to confront economic challenges.
For her part, the Director General of External Finance at the Ministry, Ikhlas Mohamed Ali, explained that work is underway to enhance coordination between government institutions, implementing agencies, and development partners to monitor financial and operational aspects. The project’s operations are being implemented on the ground through the University of Khartoum and its Entrepreneurship Incubator Center, under the supervision of Dr. Hisham Salah El-Din Shazly as the national coordinator, and in direct coordination with the IGAD office in Khartoum and the Project Management Unit at its headquarters in Nairobi.
The launch of this component is part of a regional project in which, in addition to Sudan, South Sudan and Djibouti are participating, with a total cost of approximately US$3.255 million, funded through the African Development Bank’s Transition Support Mechanism.
The current mission’s visit will continue until August 21st to conduct consultative workshops and approve the implementation guide, draft work plan, and operational budget in preparation for the commencement of actual activities.
