Sudan and Egypt Strengthen Health Cooperation to Combat “Gambiae” Mosquito

The first virtual meeting between Sudan and Egypt following the signing of the protocol on combating the “Gambiae” mosquito was held on Sunday.
During the meeting, participants reviewed a comprehensive report on the health situation in both countries, with particular focus on the challenges posed by the disease and strategies to limit its spread.
According to the Sudan News Agency, the meeting concluded with an agreement on an implementation plan for indoor residual spraying campaigns in the Northern State, River Nile State, and Kassala. The campaign is scheduled to commence in October and November to ensure comprehensive coverage of the targeted areas and protect local communities from the risks of infection.
Participants stressed the importance of joint health cooperation in combating tropical diseases, exchanging technical expertise, and coordinating field efforts to ensure the success of spraying operations and achieve a tangible impact in strengthening public health. They emphasised that this step represents a practical beginning to implementing the signed protocol, in a manner that enhances the health system’s capabilities and reduces the spread of the disease in the targeted regions.
Representing the Sudanese side at the meeting were Dr Asmahan Al-Khair, Acting Director-General of Primary Health Care; Dr Adel Salman, Director of Environmental Health; and Mr Hamza Sami Al-Jak, Director of Vector Control.
The Egyptian side included Dr Amani Al-Habashi, Head of the Central Administration for Tropical Diseases and Disease Vectors at the Ministry of Health and Population; Engineer Wael Quraitim, Director-General of the General Administration for Vector Control; and Dr Ahmed Al-Bari, Director-General of the General Administration for Tropical Diseases, in addition to directors of vector control departments from the targeted states.
