Russia Opens an Investigation into the Death of the Chief Engineer of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has condemned the killing of Alexander Yakovlev, the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, in a drone attack near the plant. Grossi described the incident as an “unjustified attack” that seriously threatens nuclear safety, calling for an immediate halt to all attacks on facilities and personnel.
Meanwhile, Svetlana Petrenko, spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative Committee, announced today (Thursday) that the Ukrainian armed forces’ attack on the vehicle that killed Alexander Yakovlev, the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, posed a threat to the safety of thousands of civilians.
Petrenko told the Russian news agency Sputnik: “The Russian Investigative Committee is identifying the representatives of the Kyiv regime specifically responsible for this criminal act, which threatens the security and safety of thousands of civilians.”
The Investigative Committee explained that Ukrainian militants targeted a civilian vehicle with a drone in the city of Energodar on July 15. The attack killed the driver and Alexander Yakovlev, the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, who was also in the vehicle. A plant worker was injured.
Petrenko added that the committee opened a criminal case on terrorism charges following the killing of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant chief engineer and his driver in an attack by Ukrainian forces. She stated, “The Main Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on terrorism charges (Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code) in connection with a drone attack by Ukrainian armed groups on a civilian vehicle in the Zaporizhzhia region.”
Earlier, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom, announced that Alexander Yakovlev, the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, was killed on Wednesday in a deliberate terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime.
