Spokesperson for the Dialogue Committee: Our Initiative Aims to Create an Atmosphere Conducive to a Comprehensive Conference

The official spokesperson for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee, Engineer Othman Mirghani, reiterated that the initiative aims to create an atmosphere conducive to holding a Sudanese conference within the country. This conference would bring together political and social actors to discuss ways to overcome the current crisis and build a state that transcends the bitterness of the past and the mistakes of history.
In an interview with the “Political Forum” program on Sudanese television, Mirghani stated that the initiative originated from a group of Sudanese citizens concerned about the future of their nation. He emphasized that the initiators have no predetermined agenda for the dialogue and are not seeking to impose specific outcomes. Rather, they are working to prepare the ground for all Sudanese parties.
He explained that the idea is based on several conditions, most notably allowing a Sudanese conference to be held within Sudan, providing the necessary guarantees for a free and unrestricted dialogue among the various political and social actors, and committing to implementing the dialogue’s outcomes.
He added, “We don’t own the dialogue, and we don’t have an agenda. All we’ve done is prepare the ground for the Sudanese parties.” He emphasized that the participating parties will determine how the dialogue sessions will be conducted, their agenda, and the recommendations that may emerge.
Mirghani noted that the initiative began with four people and himself, following consultations held in Egypt, before the idea moved to the practical testing phase within Sudan.
He said that the initiators requested a meeting with the Chairman of the Sovereign Council to ensure the necessary will and guarantees were in place.
He explained that the Chairman listened attentively to the proposal, indicating that the listening was not merely a formality, but rather characterized by a review of the ideas and a discussion of the arguments and logic upon which the initiative was based.
Mirghani revealed that the initiative was later expanded through communication with additional parties and the addition of members to the committee, with the aim of broadening the range of opinions and developing the idea practically.
He pointed out that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council’s speech on the occasion of Army Day constituted a significant turning point, as he announced his commitment to the guarantees required for holding the dialogue, including those related to immunities, legal procedures, and the implementation of the conference’s outcomes.
Mirghani said that the content of the speech “was evidence of seriousness and that the path is now clear,” adding that the announcement represented a clear message that the ball is now in the court of the Sudanese parties to move forward in making the dialogue a success.
He emphasized that the initiative stems from the conviction that the national motivation among Sudanese people is greater than ever before, and that the current stage represents a suitable opportunity to overcome differences, not only to address the current crisis, but also to build a stable Sudanese state that transcends the causes of successive conflicts and wars.
