Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris conducted an inspection visit on Monday to Port Sudan Airport, where he reviewed the airport’s conditions and the challenges affecting its operations.
During the visit, Idris received a detailed briefing from airport officials on technical and operational issues, development requirements, plans to modernize infrastructure and improve passenger services, as well as ongoing rehabilitation and construction projects.
The Prime Minister issued a number of directives aimed at improving and upgrading airport performance. He instructed Customs authorities to fully provide the personnel required to facilitate procedures for all passengers, both arriving and departing, particularly transit travelers. He directed that all transit-related procedures be completed at the passengers’ final destination point to help close loopholes that could facilitate smuggling.
He also instructed Passport Police at all Sudanese airports to maintain continuous presence throughout airport operating hours and to provide sufficient staff to complete passenger procedures efficiently and promptly.
In addition, Idris directed all airlines operating in Sudan to comply with applicable laws regarding passenger services, particularly ensuring that passengers’ luggage is not left behind without their knowledge. He stressed that any violation would make airlines fully responsible for all legal liabilities and resulting financial costs.
The Prime Minister further instructed the Civil Aviation Authority to closely monitor the quality of services provided by airlines operating in the country, regulate and organize passenger movement through all Sudanese airports, and provide the necessary resources to support these efforts.
He also directed the Sudan Airports Company to rehabilitate operational airports across the country and address outstanding operational deficiencies, particularly the installation and maintenance of baggage conveyor systems and other essential equipment, in order to ensure smooth airport operations and improve passenger satisfaction.
Finally, Idris instructed the Ministry of Finance to provide the necessary funding to address these urgent operational needs.
