Turkey to Resume Commercial Attaché Operations, Ziraat Bank Set to Return

Turkey’s ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yıldız, announced the resumption of the work of the Turkish Commercial Attaché, the reopening of the Turkish Agricultural Bank (Ziraat), and the return of Turkish Airlines to operate in Sudan in the coming period.
This came during his meeting yesterday (Thursday) with the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasin Yaqub. Yıldız confirmed that these steps come within his country’s approach aimed at strengthening areas of cooperation with Sudan, according to the Sudan News Agency.
The ambassador revealed preparations for holding an exhibition of Turkish industrial products in Sudan in the near future.
The volume of trade exchange between Sudan and Turkey amounts to about $500 million, according to official statistics.
For her part, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasin Ali Yaqub, announced arrangements to hold a forum for Turkish businesspeople in Al-Jazirah State. She explained that holding the forum soon in Al-Jazirah State is expected to bring about a significant breakthrough in Sudanese industry, especially in agricultural manufacturing, in which Sudan has comparative advantages.
The minister affirmed the depth and strength of relations between Sudan and Turkey through supporting and strengthening sustainable partnerships in the industrial and commercial sectors between the two countries.
She said the ministry plans to benefit from the major industrial capabilities Turkey possesses to implement programs for reconstructing the industrial sector and achieving the slogan “Industry for Export” through providing production lines, modern technologies, training programs, capacity building, and financing for small and medium enterprises.
The minister also discussed with the Turkish ambassador economic cooperation files and ways to develop them, as well as increasing the volume of Turkish investments in Sudan, especially in the industrial sector.
The two sides agreed to organize visits for Sudanese state governors to Turkey to observe Turkey’s experiences in industry—particularly small industries—along with forming a working team to prepare for the forum and its accompanying exhibition.
Sudan and Turkey signed a free trade agreement in 2017, in addition to 20 cooperation agreements in various economic, financial, and banking sectors.
