Sudan and Russia have signed economic and trade cooperation protocol, along with two memorandums of understanding on transport and infrastructure, in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Wednesday.
The eighth session of the Sudanese-Russian Joint Ministerial Committee for Economic Cooperation concluded in Moscow on Wednesday.
The Sudanese delegation was led by the Minister of Minerals, Nour Eldaim Taha, while the Russian delegation was headed by the Minister of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov.
In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals said that “at the conclusion of the eighth session of the Joint Ministerial Committee, a protocol of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries was signed, along with two memorandums of understanding on transport, infrastructure, and banking.”
The statement explained that the Russian side expressed its readiness to provide all necessary support and facilitation for both the public and private sectors to invest in a number of projects, especially during the post-war reconstruction phase.
Minister of Minerals, Nour Eldaim Taha, stated that the agreements reached and the memorandums and protocol signed will contribute to developing relations between the two countries, particularly as Sudan is entering a phase of reconstruction following the devastation caused by the war waged by the terrorist militia – referring to the Rapid Support Forces, which he called a terrorist organization.
The final day of the meetings included a bilateral meeting between the heads of the two delegations, during which they discussed the key outcomes of the technical meetings in the fields of energy, oil, minerals, transport, and infrastructure.
Both sides emphasized the need to enhance cooperation in these areas in the coming period, by activating mechanisms for cooperation and close coordination between the two countries, in order to strengthen economic and trade relations during the reconstruction phase following the war.
According to the statement, the two sides also stressed the importance of establishing a strategic partnership between Sudan and Russia, working to open all investment opportunities to the Russian side, and developing a clear vision for leveraging Russian capabilities, particularly in the fields of mining, energy, oil, and road and bridge construction.
Russian Minister of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov, spoke about the strength of Sudanese-Russian relations and his country’s commitment to developing them, especially in the economic sphere.
He explained that the discussions and agreements reached would support the development of relations and contribute to increasing trade, noting that trade volume had recently increased by 92%, as a result of the recent momentum in economic relations.
