Sudan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Professor Ahmed Adam Ahmed, on Saturday officially launched the rehabilitation of the International Youth City, marking the start of a project that represents one of the flagship initiatives of the Youth and Sports Activities Support Fund to restore youth and sports infrastructure, following the fund’s fulfillment of commitments it had previously announced.

Work on the first phase has already begun, focusing on the sports hall and swimming pool as part of a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the city’s facilities and prepare them to host youth and sporting programmes and activities.

The project forms part of the ambitious strategy unveiled by the Youth and Sports Activities Support Fund under the leadership of Chairman Hassan Barqo, Vice Chairman Jamal Al-Wali, and Secretary-General Saber Sharif Al-Khandaqawi. The strategy aims to upgrade Sudan’s youth and sports infrastructure and position the country among the leading nations in this field.

In a related development, the committee responsible for relocating human remains from the grounds of the International Youth City has begun its initial site survey ahead of the implementation phase of the relocation process. The work will proceed in accordance with arrangements approved by the relevant authorities, paving the way for the completion of the city’s rehabilitation and redevelopment.
