Arrival of 154 Sudanese from Libya Under Voluntary Return Program
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
A total of 154 Sudanese nationals arrived at Port Sudan Airport on Monday from the Libyan capital, Tripoli, as part of the first group under the voluntary return program for Sudanese abroad.
Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and member of the Higher Committee for Returnees, Onour Ahmed Anour, stated in a press briefing that this group represents the first batch within a comprehensive plan aimed at transporting around 1,000 citizens through six flights. He noted that this flight marks the launch of the air route between Tripoli and Port Sudan, with the remaining five flights scheduled to follow in the coming days.
The ambassador confirmed that the Higher Committee has completed all administrative, logistical, and media arrangements to receive the returnees, including providing transportation to transfer them directly from Port Sudan to Khartoum and Al-Jazira states.
Onour expressed Sudan’s appreciation—both government and people—for the significant role played by Libya in organizing and facilitating the return flights and covering the transportation of citizens, reflecting the depth of the brotherly and historical relations between the two countries. He also commended the efforts of the Sudanese embassy in Tripoli and its coordination with Libyan authorities to ensure the success of the program.
He further revealed plans to organize additional trips, including sea routes in the coming weeks, as part of a comprehensive plan to repatriate those wishing to return voluntarily. He indicated that the total number of targeted returnees from Libya is estimated at around 15,000 citizens.
The ambassador reaffirmed the continued efforts of the Higher Committee to oversee and implement the voluntary return program for Sudanese nationals, whether in Libya or in neighboring and other African countries, wishing the returnees stability and a safe resettlement in their homeland.
