Forensic Medicine Authority: Campaign to Collect Bodies Dumped by Militias into Sewage Systems

Sudanhorizon – Mariam Abashar
Khartoum State, in coordination with the relevant judicial authorities, will begin a large-scale campaign next week to collect bodies thrown by the militias into wells, manholes, and household drains in areas which used to be under militia control.
Dr. Hisham Zain Al-Abidin, Head of the Forensic Medicine Authority, told Sudanhorizon news website that all bodies scattered the open alongside roads and open grounds have been collected and buried in known cemeteries. He indicated that work is underway to count the dead and the mass graves found after the liberation of Khartoum State, and to burry all the bodies found.
Zain Al-Abidin added that all the collected bodies were found in areas previously controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), some belonged to civilians, while others were prisoners held by the militia but were executed.
He explained that the militias’ control of laboratories in Khartoum State, and subsequent sabotage, prevented the identification of the martyrs through genetic testing. He said that the bodies could be examined in the future after the laboratories are rehabilitated.
Dr. Zain Al-Abidin added that next week’s campaign will target bodies dumped by the militia in wells and manholes, in addition to bodies buried in the open. Dr. Hisham expects the cleanup and collection of bodies from the state’s localities to be completed before the onset of full rainy season.
