Livestock Ministry Stresses the Importance of Scientific Research in Developing the Sector

Sudan’s Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Professor Ahmed El-Tijani Al-Mansouri, has underscored the vital role of applied scientific research and the contribution of university academics in increasing production and productivity in the livestock and fisheries sector, describing it as one of the country’s key pillars for achieving food security.

The remarks came during a meeting on Sunday with the Director of the Bahri University, Professor Hatem Rahmatallah, at the minister’s office. The two sides discussed ways to activate the existing cooperation agreement between the ministry and the university and expand it in support of sustainable development goals.

The meeting emphasized the importance of the ministry’s contribution to rehabilitating and upgrading the university’s livestock farms, poultry facilities, and fish farms in line with modern technical standards.

The two parties also agreed to make use of the Regional Center for Meat Inspection and Quality to train university students and equip them with practical skills in the meat industry and food safety standards.

In addition, they agreed that Bahri University would contribute its academic expertise and technical personnel to the studies and designs related to the proposed Livestock Production City project planned for Khartoum State.

For his part, Professor Hatem Rahmatallah praised the continued support provided by the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to the university, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to mobilizing its research and academic capabilities to serve community needs and actively contribute to the ministry’s programs aimed at advancing and developing the livestock and fisheries sector.
