The official spokesperson of the Justice and Equality Movement, Dr. Mohamed Zakaria, reaffirmed that the parties to the peace process remain committed to all the entitlements of the Juba Peace Agreement, including the provision on power-sharing.

In an exclusive statement to the news site Sudanhorizon, Zakaria said that one of the clauses of the Juba Peace Agreement stipulates that the positions secured by the movements remain with those parties until the end of the transitional period. He added, “We agreed with the government on these positions prior to signing the agreement, that the posts obtained by the peace parties would be maintained until the end of the transitional period.”

He questioned, “Has any entity asked us to give up our positions in the government?” and answered, “Consultations are still ongoing on this matter with Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris, and we prefer to speak after reaching an understanding on the issue.”

The Justice and Equality Movement’s spokesperson confirmed that the leadership in Port Sudan is in harmony, accusing factions from the Rapid Support Forces militia and their allied political forces of attempting to weaken the cohesion of the internal front.

He stated, “We are more committed to maintaining internal unity and are capable of managing the country’s affairs and steering the transitional ship to safe harbor.” He added, “We will foil all such attempts to create division among the transitional parties by adhering to commitments and covenants, foremost among them the Juba Peace Agreement.”

When asked whether there are other parties within the National Front supporting the armed forces that oppose such power-sharing arrangements, he said, “We are seeking an answer to that question.”
