National Forces: Guterres Should Ignore Vested Criticism Against His Envoy

Cairo – Sudanhorizon
The National Forces Coordination Committee has expressed its deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, in his quest to achieve peace and stability in the Sudan.
In a statement issued today on Sunday, signed by its Secretary-General, Mohamed Sid Ahmed Sir El-Khatim (El-Jakoumi), the committee emphasized the important role played by Lamamra in supporting dialogue between the various Sudanese parties and his efforts to facilitate political solutions that preserve Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.
In its statement, the Coordination Committee reiterated its rejection of the memorandum signed by some activists, who it said lack popular support and belong to the “Sumudu” coalition, the political arm of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia. The memorandum was submitted to the UN Secretary-General with the aim of pushing him to withdraw his Special Envoy to Sudan.
The statement said: “We see this memorandum as a clear attempt to sabotage the Sudanese political scene and undermine the ongoing constructive national consultations, which recently led to the appointment of a civilian prime minister, who was welcomed by the African Union, the Arab League, and the United Nations.”
The statement said the Committee considered this memorandum to be an attempt to obstruct efforts to build a civilian state in Sudan, calling on the UN Secretary-General and the international community not to be lured by such attempts, which aim to prolong the crisis and cast doubt on the personality of the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy.
The National Forces Coordination Committee also affirmed its complete openness and unwavering commitment to cooperating with UN envoy Ramtane Lamamra, calling on all parties to cooperate with him and facilitate his mission in order to achieve the desired peace and stability in the Sudan
