Al-Amin Daoud: No Conflict Between Internal Dialogue and the Quintet’s Initiative

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa
Al-Amin Daoud, Head of the Media Sector for the Democratic Bloc, affirmed that the Bloc’s meeting with the National Dialogue Preparation Committee was significant and positive. He noted that the meeting involved an exchange of views regarding the dialogue process and ways to create an environment conducive to its launch in a serious and comprehensive manner.
In an exclusive statement, Daoud said that the Bloc presented its vision and observations concerning the dialogue process and, in turn, listened to the Committee’s perspective. He highlighted a shared emphasis on the importance of continued communication and consultation in the coming period to facilitate understandings that serve the national interest. Daoud added that the Bloc views the national principles proposed by the Committee positively, considering them a potential foundation for dialogue, provided they garner consensus and acceptance among the various parties.
Daoud emphasized that the bloc’s primary concern is for these principles to be inclusive and reflective of the fundamental issues that matter to the Sudanese people—foremost among them national unity, equal citizenship, the rule of law, the rejection of exclusion, and respect for the will of the people. He noted the bloc’s view on the importance of translating these principles from a theoretical framework into practical steps that can help build trust and foster political understandings among Sudanese parties, pointing to commendable efforts currently underway in this regard. He underscored the importance of allowing the dialogue preparatory committee the opportunity to complete its consultations with various Sudanese forces and components, stating that the committee’s success would be judged by the results and understandings it achieves rather than merely by the holding of meetings.
He added that attaining practical outcomes remains possible provided there is political will, broad participation, an agreed-upon clear agenda, and mechanisms to implement whatever is agreed upon.
Regarding the relationship between the launch of the internal dialogue committee and the Quintet Mechanism, Daoud stated that he does not believe the start of the internal Sudanese dialogue necessarily signals the end of the Quintet Mechanism’s meetings.
He explained that the bloc views these various tracks as potentially complementary efforts rather than conflicting ones. He noted that the Quintet Mechanism has played a role in supporting and encouraging dialogue, while the internal dialogue represents a significant step toward fostering national ownership of the political process.
He added that, in their view, the priority is for these efforts to complement one another, with the shared goal of supporting a serious and inclusive Sudanese dialogue. He affirmed the bloc’s welcome of any effort that helps bridge viewpoints and create a conducive climate for dialogue, while emphasizing that the process must be fundamentally Sudanese and its outcomes must reflect the will and aspirations of the Sudanese people.
