Routine Ambassadorial Reassignments Within the Sudanese FM Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has carried out a routine internal reshuffle—the most extensive in years—affecting various general and standard departments. The move accommodates ambassadors who have completed their overseas assignments and returned to the Ministry’s headquarters.
Under the reassignment list issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohieddin Salem, and pursuant to internal administrative decision No. 3, Ambassador Ahmed Omar Taboul was appointed Director of the Media Department and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry. He succeeds Ambassador Jamal Malik, who remains as Director of the American Affairs Department.
The reassignments included Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal (former Ambassador to Austria) as Director of the Ministerial Executive Office; Ambassador Mohamed Al-Ghazali Al-Tijani Siraj (Ambassador to Russia) as Director of the European Affairs Department, following its separation from the American Affairs Department; Ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rahman Sewar Al-Dahab (former Ambassador to Qatar) as Director General of Protocol and Ceremonies; and Ambassador Othman Hussein (former Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo) as Director of the African Affairs Department.
The reshuffle also included Ambassador Abdul-Azim Mohamed Sadiq Al-Karouri as Director General of the Asian and Arab Affairs Department; Ambassador Ammar Al-Tayeb Abdullah as Director General of Human and Financial Resources; and Ambassador Kamal Jabara (former Ambassador to Kenya) as Director of the Economic and Technical Cooperation Department. The decision appointed Ambassador Mawadda Omar Haj Al-Tom (former Ambassador to Morocco) as Director of the Arab League Department; Ambassador Al-Rih Abdul-Rahman Al-Mahdi as Director of the Human Resources Department; Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Al-Dawi as Director of the International Organizations Department; and Ambassador Khalid Mohammed Othman as Director of the Peace and Humanitarian Affairs Department.
The reshuffle also included Ambassador Mohammed Hassan Ba’ashoum as Director of the Human Rights, Women, and Children Department; Ambassador Tariq Abdullah Al-Tom as Director of the Asian Affairs Department; Ambassador Othman Al-Hijaz as Director of the Consular and Expatriate Affairs Department; and Ambassador Khalid Al-Khair Dafallah as Director of the Training Department.
It is worth noting that several of these ambassadors are based at Ministry headquarters; some had not been recalled to active duty following the outbreak of the war—primarily due to a lack of office space—while others had been on unpaid leave. Internal reshuffles of this nature are typically linked to nominations for heading diplomatic missions abroad.
