Sudanese Chargé d’Affaires in Paris: French Envoy Left with a Positive Impression of the Situation in Sudan

Sudanese Chargé d’Affaires in Paris, Ambassador Hamed Al-Jazouli, said the recent visit by French Special Envoy for Sudan and the Horn of Africa, Jean Mazet-Safa, and his talks with Sudanese state leaders in Khartoum had yielded positive results.

In an exclusive interview with Sudanhorizon on Saturday, Al-Jazouli said Mazet-Safa had left with a very positive impression of the situation in Sudan. He noted that the embassy was following up on the outcomes of the visit with the relevant departments at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, despite the French government’s preoccupation with preparations for the upcoming presidential elections and a wave of demonstrations.

During his meeting with the French envoy in Khartoum last week, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mohieddin Salem affirmed Sudan’s desire to build new relations with France based on integrity, transparency and facts.

The minister urged the envoy to familiarise himself with the realities of the situation in Sudan and the positions of the Sudanese people, rather than adopting false narratives promoted by certain Sudanese parties seeking to return to power. He cited allegations that the Sudanese Armed Forces had used chemical weapons as an example of such claims.

Salem affirmed that Sudan was on the verge of overcoming this difficult phase and called on France to reopen its embassy in Khartoum, as well as its cultural centre, which had served as a platform for cultural exchange.

In a separate development, the chargé d’affaires at the Sudanese Embassy in Paris confirmed that all members of the Sudanese community in France were safe, amid violent demonstrations sweeping France and several Western countries in recent days over rising living costs.

France witnessed a wave of violent protests last week, during which authorities used force and demonstrators responded with counter-violence. Further protests were expected in French cities on Saturday, amid heightened security measures and the complete closure of commercial shops.
