Official: RSF Kills 11 Displaced People, Including Nine Children, in West Darfur

The Ministry of Social Welfare in the Darfur Regional Government has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of committing a massacre on Saturday, killing 11 displaced people, including nine children, in the Hajar Sanakit area of the Bir Siliba administrative unit in Sirba locality, West Darfur State. Several others were also injured.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Health Minister Babiker Hamdine stressed that targeting displacement camps and unarmed civilians constituted a horrific crime and a grave violation of international humanitarian law. He said the attack reflected the militia’s disregard for innocent lives and added to its record of violations and crimes against civilians in Darfur.
He explained that the victims had been forced to flee their villages of Narouma, Karmalia, and Qaqrumba last year after the militia burned their homes, looted their property, and drove them from their communities. They had sought refuge in the Sanakit area near the Sudan-Chad border, where they faced extremely harsh humanitarian conditions.
According to the statement, the militia pursued them once again, targeting their displacement site with drones and carrying out what the minister described as a brutal massacre.
Hamdine said the continued silence of the international community and its turning a blind eye to repeated crimes and violations against civilians without accountability contributed to entrenching impunity and encouraged the militia to commit further atrocities.
“The blood of innocent victims, particularly children and women, places an undeniable moral and legal responsibility on the international community. Protecting displaced people and civilians is not a choice, but an obligation imposed by international laws and conventions,” he said.
Hamdine called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to condemn the massacre and hold the militia’s leadership and all those involved accountable without exception.
He also called for the RSF to be designated a terrorist organization and urged the international community to intensify efforts to stop its crimes and violations against the Sudanese people.
