Entire Family, Including Three Children, Killed in SPLM Shelling of Kadugli

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

The Sudan Doctors Network strongly condemned the artillery shelling carried out by forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, against the city of Kadugli in South Kordofan State on Saturday. The shelling resulted in civilian casualties, including three children, in another violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on residential areas and civilians.

According to preliminary information, the shelling killed an entire family consisting of a mother and three children, highlighting the tragic scale of the civilian casualties caused by attacks on residential neighborhoods in the city, the network said in its statement.

The network stressed that indiscriminate shelling targeting civilians constitutes a condemnable crime and an explicit violation of international conventions, further worsening the suffering of residents facing extremely complex humanitarian and security conditions.

The Sudan Doctors Network held the forces of the SPLM, led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, fully responsible for the attack. It called for an immediate end to attacks on civilians and urged respect for international humanitarian law, which obliges parties to a conflict to protect civilian lives and property.

The network also called on the United Nations and human rights and humanitarian organizations to condemn these violations, work to document them and hold those responsible accountable, and ensure that civilians in conflict zones receive the necessary protection.
