Foreign Ministry: Taking Appropriate Measures in Response to Juba’s Unjustified Remarks

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned recent statements made by South Sudan’s Foreign Minister in New York, in which he called for the intervention of the United Nations and the African Union in Sudan.
In a statement, the Ministry described the remarks as unjustified, noting that despite establishing an investigative committee following recent events in Al-Jazirah State, there have been retaliatory campaigns in Juba and other South Sudan targeting Sudanese citizens. These campaigns, reportedly incited by official South Sudanese leaders, have included killings, physical assaults, and looting. Even the Sudanese Embassy in Juba and its staff were not spared, constituting a grave violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and international laws and norms.
The Ministry emphasized that Sudan has shown restraint toward repeated violations by South Sudan out of respect for the historical ties and neighbourly relations between the two peoples.
The statement highlighted that documented evidence has been provided to the South Sudanese government regarding the participation of South Sudanese mercenaries in the ranks of the rebel militia fighting against the Sudanese state and its people. Despite this, Juba has failed to take the necessary measures to halt the recruitment and deployment of mercenaries. On the contrary, it has continued to provide significant support to the rebel militia, including the transport and medical treatment of its members in South Sudanese hospitals.
The Ministry also accused South Sudan of serious violations in Abyei, citing clear breaches of the agreement governing the area’s status. These violations have been documented by the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in reports submitted to the UN Secretary-General.
The Ministry reaffirmed that it closely monitors South Sudan’s actions and will take appropriate measures to respond to these repeated violations at international and regional forums. It emphasized that the Sudanese government will not hesitate to implement measures to protect its rights and the rights of its citizens, as guaranteed by international law and treaties.
The statement concluded by underscoring Sudan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, and holding South Sudan accountable for its actions.
