UN Condemns Drone Massacre in Wad Al-Mahi, Calls for Accountability

New York – Sudanhorizon

The United Nations condemned an attack on a camp for displaced people in Sudan’s Blue Nile region on Friday, which left dozens dead and injured.

The Sudanese government accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of carrying out the attack, which killed at least 31 people.

Denise Brown, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, said in a statement: “Condemning these senseless killings is essential, but there must also be accountability for this blatant disregard for international humanitarian law.”

The statement noted that the United Nations had condemned the drone attack, which killed at least 31 civilians, most of them women and children, and injured dozens more, some of whom sustained serious injuries.

Brown expressed shock at reports of the strike, which hit a site where displaced people had sought refuge after fleeing recent hostilities in the localities of Geisan and Al-Kurmuk.

The statement also recalled a similar attack a week earlier on a shelter for displaced people in El Obeid, North Kordofan State, which killed and injured more innocent civilians, including children.

Parts of Blue Nile State have come under repeated attacks in recent weeks, forcing thousands of civilians to flee and exposing many more to the risk of death, direct harm, and further suffering.
