The Government of Sudan condemned “in the strongest terms the attacks carried out on Friday morning against the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, using suicide drones.” According to preliminary reports these attacks resulted in civilian injuries and damage to homes and property.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Government of Sudan held “the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia responsible for these attacks, based on incoming reports.” It affirmed that “the security and safety of citizens are non-negotiable, the blood of the Sudanese people is sacrosanct, and the perpetrators of crimes against the innocent will not escape justice.”

The Government of Sudan calls on the UN Security Council, the United Nations, the African Union, and all relevant international organizations to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities. It urged them to take urgent, concrete measures to halt attacks on civilians, hold those responsible accountable, and stop the flow of weapons, drones, and other forms of military support to the entities using them to commit grave violations against the Sudanese people.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry statement asserted that “endangering the lives of innocent citizens and targeting residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a blatant assault on the human right to life, security, and dignity.”

The Government of Sudan reiterated that “the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian objects constitutes a war crime.” …warrants criminal accountability, and legal liability extends to anyone proven to be involved in planning these crimes, issuing orders for their execution, or participating in them.”

The Government of Sudan affirmed that “these attacks will not deter it from fulfilling its national and constitutional responsibilities to protect citizens; safeguard the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; and work towards achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace based on the rule of law and an end to impunity.” It declared—unequivocally—that “there is no immunity for perpetrators of crimes against civilians, no impunity, and no sustainable peace without justice,” according to the statement.
