Minister of Energy: Intensive Efforts to Address the Electricity Crisis in the Red Sea State

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, affirmed that the government is working diligently to find fundamental solutions to stabilize the electricity supply in the Red Sea State, especially during the summer season.
During his meeting Wednesday at his office with a delegation from the Beja Graduates Conference, led by Dr. Issa Awli, the Minister briefed them on the efforts being made to stabilize electricity supply in the state. These efforts include serious steps to rehabilitate the Kalanaib power station and provide marine barges as an emergency solution.
He announced plans to establish a 50-megawatt solar power plant, in addition to connecting it to the national grid via the River Nile State after the Merowe Dam power station is restarted.
He also stated that maintenance equipment for the station is expected to arrive in Port Sudan on Wednesday and then be transported to Khartoum. He also noted that the Turkish power barge’s capacity will increase from 50 megawatts to 100 megawatts, after 20 megawatts are connected to the national grid, and will reach 80 megawatts after the completion of maintenance at the Merowe Dam power station.
